Given the heading of this posting, the question that needs to be asked is why has it been four years since Dr Hamilton's Pollution Report (first published in 2007 - see below) and still no sign of the municipality acting on the dangerously high levels of e coli and enterococcus occurrences in the Klein River Estuary?
The Overstrand municipality has been paralyzed by denial and embarrassment leading to continued indecision and consequent dereliction of its mandated duties to stem pollution and prevent a public health disaster in the lagoon.
Why has it not acted on the provisions of By-law 4 (June 2002) and given notice to the owners of suspected leaking septic tanks on the properties commonly know as Wolvengat/Mosaic Farm, the Camp site, the Yacht Club, Stanford Slipway etc (corresponding to areas of high level pollution found in the report)
Now the heartening news is that the owners have undertaken their own survey and have contracted Ken Tunley of Balfour Projects to inspect all the septic tanks around the lagoon.
Further postings to follow!

Please note the correction in that Mosaic Farm has mistakenly been noted in the above article. Mosaic Farm is not one of the properties suspected of having leaking septic tanks. The tanks on Mosaic Farm are new and pass all building set back regulations. Furthermore, Mosaic Farm actively work towards and invests resources towards the conservation of the Kleinrivier Lagoon, fynbos, birds and mammals of the area.
