We need to start experiencing the joy of being both embedded in community and connected to the natural world.

CRITICAL STATUS OF KLEIN RIVER ESTUARY HOLDS LITTLE REGARD FROM MUNICIPAL MANAGER

THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPAL MANAGER IS AGAIN 'OVER THE BARREL' ON NEMA REGULATION

Follow this very recent application (see below) and OCF's commentary that follows. Where will OM municipal manager Zybrand turn with this ball in his hand?

Recent application for consolidation and departure of Portion 10 of the Farm 640, Portion 7 of the Farm 641, Potion 8 of the Farm 641 and Portion 1 of the Farm 723 (Mosaic Farm) has been made to the municipality.

Amoungst a whole raft of environmental issues;

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The proposal to use septic tanks for sewage treatment
is unacceptable. It should be a condition of the
authorisation of the consolidation, resubdivision,
consent use and departure that all sewage on the
subject properties (existing and proposed future)
must be treated in a way that ensures that no pollution
ofground water or the estuary is possible.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The critical status of the Klein River Estuary demands that
extreme care must be given to ensuring that no development takes place without
thorough environmental assessment, particularly when this involves water-front
development on the estuary.

The NEMA requires this conservative approach for all sensitive riverine and estuarine areas and it is incumbent upon the municipality to behave in accordance with this approach.
